Eat with Spencer 6 Course Dining Pop-up: Review

A trendy brunch bar and six courses by award winning chef Spencer Ollington was bound to make everyone fall in love this Valentines.

It was the canapes that started it! The scrumptious Chorizo & Prawn Paella Arancini, Sticky Orange and Ginger chicken thighs with mange tout ‘slaw, crisp Halloumi fries with harissa spiced pepper hummus and roasted chick peas set the scene for what was about to become.

Upon arrival event co-ordinator Gemma Burnikell welcomed guests with a refreshing Orange juice and sparkling Prosecco drinks reception to get the party started.

Gradually the room started to fill and the dim lighting prepared everyone for a relaxed dining experience, like no other.

Spencer welcomed everyone with a heart-warming speech and thanked everyone for coming to his second pop-up and for their continued support and for what was about to unfold.

Usually a Café by day, this was Fourth & Fifth’s first ever restaurant experience and with over 50 guests, the variety of seating arrangements from tables of two, breakfast style bars & stools and luxury booths worked in our favour to offer variety and flexibility for couples, friends and groups of friends. After all no one should eat alone on Valentine’s Day!

Local talented vocalist Sarah Jane Hart brought the casual lounge vibes and warming ambience with soft love songs.

Up next, we had the sweet pea, edamame & mint soup with crushed wasabi peas, crumbled feta and baked sour dough.

Our friendly and smiley waitresses did a fantastic job on the evening, delivering the experience and making sure everyone was looked after. Crisp baby gem leaves filled with slices of Thai spiced belly pork and pink pickled onions, which may have been a bit edgy for some people, definitely had a spicy kick to them which sure did warm everyone up, ready for the next round.

Half way through and guests were really enjoying themselves!

Next was the creamy beetroot and asparagus risotto laced with hot smoked salmon flakes, topped with baby shoots, crisp parmesan taco & drizzled with warm lemon & tarragon vinaigrette.

Followed by Course 5 which was a treacle glazed braised short rib of beef with creamy cannellini and butter bean puree, charred tender stem, Cavolo nero crisps and silky Malbec jus.

Drinks were flowing, bellies were full and the Chef was slowly unwinding from his fabulous six courses!

To finish the night off sweetly, we served the last course which was Chocolate & Raspberry Marquise with raspberry sorbet, seared marshmallow and orange infused shortbread.

Everyone had table favours too from the delicious Atelier the Brigadeiro and Oh my Cakery. The Chocolate truffles and Meringue kisses sure did go down a treat!

Here are some excellent reviews that we really want to share with you:

“My boyfriend and I attended Spencer’s 6 course dining experience on Valentines day and must admit we had an incredible night. We were greeted with a warm welcome and the option to chose where to sit. The venue setting was perfect for a Valentines meal. All the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had an exceptional experience, especially Spencer who gave the visit a very personal, friendly touch. Each and every course was divine, will definitely be getting Spencer to cook for me again. Sarah was a fantastic singer who enhanced the atmosphere. Thanks for a wonderful evening.” Amy Louise Bass.

“Myself and my wife had the pleasure of attending Spencer's Six-Course meal event and with so much emphasis being on the food, he certainly did not disappoint. The food was fantastic and was served with precision timing. To be able to cook for so many and maintain such a high standard is nothing short of outstanding. The evening was well organised and the venue was the perfect setting for a valentines meal. Staff were welcoming and friendly but the highlight was most definitely the food. Fabulous!” Richard Bateman.
